A Genealogue Exclusive [What's That?]Following on the success of the BBC series Who Do You Think You Are?, NBC is launching its own version, tentatively titled Your Roots are Showing. The program will air on Thursday nights once the network finally cancels Joey.
Hosted by Bob Saget, the show will track celebrities investigating their family histories. The first episode will feature heiress Paris Hilton, who was surprised to learn that not all of her ancestors were born to wealth.
"They were like, 'Your great-great-grandfather was born on a farm,' and I was all, 'That's hot.'"
Hilton was also surprised to learn that her hotel-magnate great-grandfather's second wife was not the one on Green Acres.
Subsequent episodes will feature fitness guru Richard Simmons, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Murray Gell-Man, and actor Keanu Reeves, who learns the true source of his unusual first name.
"My parents always told me it's Hawaiian for 'cool breeze over the mountains,'" Reeves told The Genealogue. "Turns out they just made it up to screw with me. That is so not cool."
Show producers promise that at least three celebrities will be proven illegitimate this season, and a fourth will be shown to descend from both Chang and Eng, the original Siamese twins.
