Images of the 1851 census of Canada have been online since last spring, but only now is a complete name index available for searching at Ancestry.com and Ancestry.ca. I was able to find my Dutch-American-Canadian ancestors (right) in just under 14.3 seconds.
From today until the end of the month, you can search the database for free (I haven't checked the current exchange rate, but I believe it's free north of the border as well). Come November, you'll have to shell out some American or Canadian bucks to take a peek.
