Can't Quit the Obits

Marilyn vos Savant may or may not be a genius, but she's definitely not a genealogist.

My husband and daughter read the obituaries daily, which I find strange. Why do some people like to do this?

I’ve wondered the same thing, so let’s ask. Readers, if you scan obituaries often, e-mail marilyn@parade.com and say why. A few sentences will do. For example, “I enjoy looking for my ex-husband’s name.” I’ll print the results. [Link]

Um... "to see who died" isn't a good enough reason?!?

My grandmother used to say she read them to make sure she hadn't died ;D

Maybe I should give Merla a call and explain things to her. She's local!

I read them because I am a genealogist. You would be surprised to know how many 4th, 5th, & 6th cousins I have found that way...and the names of their parents, children, etc.

HiDez Gal

I am a bail agent and if a client doesn't show in court it might be they have died so I keep an eye on the obits. I check the older archived ones on the Net because I am working on genealogy.
