Genealogue Challenge #63

A member of Bowdoin College's class of 1883 (he did not graduate) had a son-in-law who became a household name.

Who was this son-in-law?

Ken

Clarence Birdseye

The General Catalogue of Bowdoin College and the Medical School of Maine 1794-1894 (available through Google Books) provides a list of non-graduates of the Class of 1883.

One of these non-graduates was Samuel Stinson Gannett, a topographer for the U. S. Geological Survey, whose daughter, Eleanor married Clarence Birdseye in 1915, according to Birdseye's biography on birdseyefoods.com.

Tex

What's the deal with not graduating?! I can find all sorts of lists for graduates, but not for students.

Chris

Ken got it. Clarence Birdseye married Eleanor Gannett on 21 Aug. 1915 at the home of her parents in D.C.

Here's the relevant page of the Bowdoin catalog.
