A Cousin So Great He's an Ancestor

Bob Engel's explanation why he started up his piano store in California is a bit confusing.

“I was born in San Jose, so there was a draw to come back to California. And I have a strong heritage in Castro Valley as a direct descendant of James Harvey Strobridge, a great-great cousin who engineered the railroad between California and Utah.” [Link]

It reminds me of a commercial I saw either earlier this year or sometime last year. I don't remember the exact quote, but it was something like "your mother is my mother's sister three times removed."

Every chance I get I explain to people what "cousin" (1st, 2nd, etc.) and "removed" mean.

I usually end up drawing something like this and muttering curses under my breath.
