It Even Knows the Airspeed Velocity of an Unladen Sparrow

The new "computational knowledge engine" called Wolfram|Alpha is pretty neat (when it actually works). It does a good job figuring out relationships:

Not so good at practical tasks:

Wendy Hawksley

What do you mean? An African or European swallow?

Dana Huff

That's pretty cool. I like the blood relation calculator.

Chris

Wendy, if you ask of swallows in general, you get: "There is unfortunately insufficient data to estimate the velocity of an African swallow (even if you specified which of the 47 species of swallow found in Africa you meant)."

If you ask of European swallows, you get the answer: 25 mph.
