GenealogyWise and Wherefores

I've started publishing content at—the social network just quietly launched by (and loudly announced by Randy). I'm doing this for two reasons: One, (full disclosure) they're paying me a few bucks to do so; and two, it's something I would have done anyway. I haven't jumped on the Facebook genealogy bandwagon, because I prefer to keep my offline private life and online genealogy life separate. If GenealogyWise takes off, I'll be able to socialize with fellow genealogists and be antisocial at the same time. Perfect!

I'll be blogging at GenealogyWise about stuff I don't generally blog about here, including original research about nearly dead celebrities. Feel free to add me as a "friend," because I'm pretty indiscriminate in whom I hang around with online.

Chris, are your blog posts on GenealogyWise a private deal with FamilyLink or is this paid thing available to all/several ppl blogging there?

Evidently it was offered to a number of genealogists, but I'm not sure who else was hired. This is only to build up some content before the official launch later this month, not a permanent gig.

Thank you for the info. Looks like it must be their " ... is hiring 15 people to help launch the site." tweet.

Yup, that's it.

I am enjoying your comments on GenealogyWise Chris and I hate to see that you will be antisocial because I think you are brilliant.

Aw, thanks!

I'm glad that there are some opportunities out there for hardworking genealogists to be remunerated in a small (I'm sure very small!) way for the tremendous work they do for the community.
I do appreciate it, however, when the author discloses when they're working for remuneration - as you're doing!
Best practices,for sure!
