Some bloggers have generated great wealth by giving away their mediocre postings for free, and then charging subscription fees for anything that's worth a crap. The ones I know about then parlayed that wealth into a higher social standing, (invites to cocktail parties, with weenies and stuff), and thus the access to the upper tier of the genealogy community.
